Flames Fall to Last Place in Round Two
The Liberty men's golf team fell to last place out of 15 squads after two rounds at N.C. State's Wolfpack Invitational, played at the 7,112-yard, par-72 River Landing Golf Club, in Wallace, N.C., on Saturday.
Liberty (613) entered the day in 13th, but fell to last place after tallying a 313 in the second round. The Flames are one stroke behind Navy (612) and five strokes out of 13th place, which is occupied by Houston (608).
Host No. 35 North Carolina State (574) climbed the ladder to tie No. 16 Duke (574) in first place. No. 18 Wake Forest (581) is holding tight in third place, seven-strokes behind the leaders. No. 8 Florida State (583) entered the day tied atop the boards with Duke, but fell to fifth place after shooting a 299 on Saturday.
After being tied for sixth entering the day, Jay Calvo (149) shot an 80 on Saturday, falling to 33rd place and five-over par. Nathan Schenz-Davis (153) is at nine-over par, while Sang Chun (155) sits at 11-over par. Preston Dembowiak (157) is at 13-over par, while Parker McKoy (167) is at 23-over par for the tournament.
No. 11 Webb Simpson (139) of Wake Forest took over the medalist lead at five-under par, while Kent Copeland (140) of North Carolina State and No. 52 Michael Schachner (140) of Duke are knotted in second place at four-under par.
