Liberty head men's basketball coach Ritchie McKay has advanced to the round of 32, defeating Washington's Lorenzo Romar in the opening round of this year's Runway to the Fashionable 4, presented by CollegInsider.com. The Runway to the Fashionable 4 is an entertaining way to determine the best-dressed coaches in men's college basketball. The website has run the event since 1998, coinciding with the NCAA Tournament, and is headed up by Angela Lento, co-founder of CollegInsider.com.
"I can't thank our fans enough for helping move us into the round of 32," said McKay. "It is tremendous to see the support we have received, and without them this wouldn't be possible. I need to give a big shout out to my wife Julie, who made some purchases during the offseason that assisted in beating such a worthy opponent.
"Lorenzo is great. In fact, we thought he was good enough to win the whole thing. We went into the tournament knowing we had a tough draw. Even though Lorenzo got a bad call or two down the stretch, which is part of the game, we are very happy to be moving on."
McKay will now face No. 1 seed Tom Pecora of Hofstra for the right to go to the Sensational 16. "We have another difficult opponent in the next round, but anything is possible," stated McKay. "After all, No. 16 seed Seth Greenberg upset No. 1 seed Rick Pitino. I just want to thank our fans for their support, and hopefully we can make it to the next round."
Should McKay win, he would face the victor of No. 13 seed Bill Grier of San Diego versus No. 5 seed Dino Gaudio of Wake Forest.
