Jon Hart opened his senior track season with a solid 203-3 effort in his specialty, the hammer throw.

Jon Hart threw the hammer 203-3, Friday at the Coastal Carolina Invitational, helping Liberty open the 2008 outdoor track & field season on a positive note.

Hart (Sr., Wyomissing, Pa.), a national qualifier in the hammer a season ago, placed fourth in the 48-member field. Hart's distance made him Liberty's first athlete to earn a berth in the NCAA East Regional Championships this season. He has become consistent in reaching the 200-foot plateau, after doing so in eight-of-11 meets in 2007.

Kristen Dalton (Jr., Wanchese, N.C.) was Liberty's only other competitor on a light opening day of action. The two-sport athlete took ninth place in the javelin, as her best effort reached 117-5. The mark was just two inches shy of her top effort from the 2007 season. Dalton was also a member of Liberty's 2007 Big South Championship volleyball squad.

Day two action at the Coastal Carolina Invitational will commence Saturday at 9 a.m., at the Coastal Carolina Track & Field Facility.
