Scouting Coastal Carolina
Coastal Carolina clinched its third-straight winning season with a 54-46 home victory over UNC Asheville on Wednesday. The Chanticleers have taken advantage of a heavy home schedule, winning 10 of 13 games at Kimbel Arena. Coastal Carolina is also getting the job done defensively, ranking No. 9 in the nation in scoring defense (53.6 ppg). The Chanticleers have held 16 out of 22 opponents under 60 points and are 14-2 in the contests.
The Chanticleers are only 2-4 in their last six road games, but one of the victories was a notable one. Coastal Carolina came from behind to claim a 52-47 decision at Winthrop on Jan. 30, handing the Eagles their first conference setback.
Lacey Lyons, a 5-11 sophomore forward, is her team's leading scorer at 12.5 ppg and sits No. 12 nationally with 58 three-pointers made. Vicky Blanchard, a 5-9 senior guard, has stepped up her play in Big South action, posting a team-high 15.6 ppg and 7.7 rpg.
The Coaching Matchup
Liberty Head Coach Carey Green is in his ninth season with the Lady Flames. He owns a 206-66 career record and is the all-time wins leader at Liberty and among Big South women's basketball coaches. His career winning percentage (.757) ranked 12th among active NCAA Division I women's basketball coaches at the beginning of the season. Green is 20-0 versus Coastal Carolina, his alma mater, during his career.
Alan LeForce is 158-145 at Coastal Carolina, in his 11th year with the Chanticleers. The 1998-99 Big South Coach of the Year is 398-325 in 26 seasons of collegiate head coaching.

The Chanticleers are one of three teams (also Charleston Southern and Winthrop) Carey Green has never lost to.
The Lady Flames were victorious in the teams' first match-up of the season, Jan. 21 in Conway, S.C. Liberty broke the game open with a 20-2 first-half run and limited the home team to 14 first-half points. The final score was 71-44 in favor of the Lady Flames. Liberty in Big South Home Contests
After winning their first three home games against Big South foes this season, the Lady Flames are now 93-22 (.809) all-time in Big South Conference home games. Since Carey Green took over as head coach in 1999-2000, Liberty is 54-5 (.915) in conference contests at the Vines Center.

Big South Recognition
Liberty has collected six out of 13 Big South Player of the Week awards this season. Megan Frazee, the reigning player of the week, has won the award four times this season (Nov. 26, Jan. 7, Jan. 21 and Feb. 11) and 10 times in her career. She is one of three Big South players (also Liberty alumni Katie Feenstra and Elena Kisseleva) to win at least 10 Big South Player of the Week honors in her career. Moriah Frazee captured the distinction on Dec. 10 and Feb. 4, the first two recognitions of her time at Liberty.
Fabulous in February
Liberty has won 82 of its last 86 games played during the month of February, dating back to the 1997 Big South Championship. The only teams to defeat the Lady Flames during February since then are High Point (three times) and UNC Asheville (one time).
Liberty owns a 163-120 all-time mark during the year's second month, including a 63-4 record under Carey Green's direction. The Lady Flames, 6-2 in February a year ago, have seven February contests on the schedule in 2007-08. They have opened the month with a 3-0 record.
Coach Carey Green Versus The Big South
Liberty is 129-12 (.915) against Big South opponents under Carey Green's direction since he took the helm of the program prior to the 1999-2000 campaign. The Lady Flames are 107-11 in regular season conference games and 22-1 in the Big South Championship.
The Lady Flames have not lost to current Big South members Coastal Carolina (20-0), Winthrop (20-0) and Charleston Southern (19-0) with Green as head coach.
Receiving Some Recognition
Liberty received its first Top 25 vote of the season in the Dec. 10 AP Top 25 poll. The Lady Flames equaled a season high with 10 votes in this week's poll, released Feb. 11. Liberty garnered the 33rd-most votes in the poll.
In the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Top 25 Poll, Liberty garnered its first vote on Dec. 18 and received a season-best 20 votes in this week's poll, announced Feb. 12. The Lady Flames received the 28th-most votes in the most recent poll.
Liberty's Iron Woman
Liberty senior shooting guard Courtney Watkins has yet to miss a contest, in the first three-plus seasons of her Lady Flame career. Her consecutive games played streak currently sits at 118. Liberty's contest against Houston on Nov. 24 was Watkins' 100th-consecutive game played for the Lady Flames. If she can stay healthy, she is on track to break 2007 graduate Michelle Parker's Liberty and Big South records for career games played during the Lady Flames' second contest at the Big South Women's Basketball Championship. Parker finished with 125 career games played.
Watkins is tied with Rachel Young (1998-2002) for fourth place on Liberty's career games played list. Elena Kisseleva (1997-2000) is third with 119 games.
Juniors Molly and Moriah Frazee have also played in every game since they have been a part of the Liberty roster. Each of them has appeared in 85-straight contests.
The Lady Flames are currently on a 10-game winning streak, as they have not dropped a decision since an 88-67 setback at North Carolina on Dec. 30.
Through the games of Feb. 12, Liberty is tied with North Carolina A&T and Stanford for the 10th-longest active streak in the nation. The Lady Flames have also recorded the ninth-longest streak in program history.
