Rocco Announces 2008 Football Signing Class
2008 Recruiting Highlight Video
Liberty University Head Football Coach Danny Rocco has announced the signing of 13 players to national letters of intent for the 2008-09 academic year, plus the addition of three players who have transferred to Liberty and are enrolled this semester.
"We are all very excited about this year's signing class," stated Rocco. "This class is comprised of 16 players from seven different states."
"We once again were able to focus in on our home state, signing six players from the Commonwealth of Virginia. We feel like we addressed several areas of need and that this class should allow us to continue to build a championship program here at Liberty.
Of the 16 new additions to the squad, seven are slated to play on the offensive side of the ball (1 QB, 3 OL, 1 TE, 2 WR), eight are defensive players (2 LB, 3 DL and 3 DB) and one special team player (PK/P).
This marks the second largest of Rocco's three signing classes, with his inaugural class in 2006 leading the way with 24 newcomers. The two-time Big South Coach of the Year's previous two signing classes have paid huge dividends for the program.
In 2006, Liberty posted the nation's best turnaround from the previous year to finish the campaign 6-5. Last year, Rocco guided the program to unprecedented highs, as Liberty finished the year 8-3 and captured its first-ever Big South football championship.
