For the second-consecutive year, Brittany Heath won a sprinting event at the VMI Winter Relays.

Liberty's Brittany Heath won the women's 200-meter dash and multi-event athletes Krystle Matthews and Matt Tarr both had successful days, Saturday at the VMI Winter Relays.

Heath (So., Freeport, Grand Bahamas) was an event champion at VMI for the second-consecutive season. A year ago, she claimed the meet's 400-meter dash crown. On Saturday, she sped around the track at Cormack Field House in 27.46 seconds to prevail in the 200.

Matthews (Chesapeake, Va.) was one of two Liberty freshmen pentathletes who kept busy at the meet, as Jennifer Healey (Virginia Beach, Va.) was also entered in multiple disciplines. Matthews' day was highlighted by a 16-8.5 long jump, which netted third place, and an 8.98 clocking in the 55-meter hurdles, good for fourth. Healey recorded a 34-10.25 in the triple jump to place third.

Heath, Matthews and Healy joined Erin Hudson (So., Whitacre, Va.) to cross the line second in the evening's final event, the 4 x 400 relay. The quartet's time was 4:33.45.

On the men's side, Tarr (Jr., Madison Twp., Pa.) ended up fourth in the long jump (20-7.25), fifth in the 55-meter dash (6.65) and seventh in the pole vault (11-10.75).

Oronde Vassell (Jr., Brooklyn, N.Y.) recorded the men's highest finish on Saturday, claiming long jump runner-up honors with his 21-6.75 leap. Matt Savini (So., Lincoln, Del.) ended up fourth in the pole vault, after clearing a season-best 12-10.75.

On Friday, Liberty will host its third and final home meet of the indoor track & field season, the Liberty Quad. The meet, which is also slated to feature Richmond and VMI, will begin at 4 p.m. with the men's weight throw.
