Lady Flames Drop Spring Opener, 5-2

The Liberty Lady Flames fell in their spring opener to West Virginia, 5-2, Friday evening indoors at the Mountaineers' Ridgeview Racquet Club.

The Lady Flames opened the match by taking the doubles point, taking two of three matches. The Liberty pairing of Jordan Jenkins and Ekaterina Kuznetsova defeated West Virginia's Stacey Percival and Natalia Prinz, 8-2, in No. 1. The Lady Flames also captured No. 2 doubles, as Stephanie Brown and Martyna Hanusz downed the Mountaineer pairing of Colleen Speaker and Stephanie LaFortune, 8-4.

 
Host West Virginia reversed its fortunes in the singles. The Mountaineers took five of the six matches to take the match. Liberty freshman Jordan Jenkins took her second match of the day for the lone Lady Flames' singles victory. The Sarasota, Fla., native rallied to win the last two sets of her No. 1 singles contest for a 5-7, 6-4, 6-1 over Mountaineer Percival.

The Lady Flames fall to 0-1 on the year, while West Virginia moves to 2-1.
Liberty returns to action on Feb. 6 with a match against East Carolina in Greenville, N.C. Match time is scheduled for noon.
