Liberty Fires Tournament Best Round To Climb To Fourth Place Finish

The Flames fired a one-over par 289, marking the best round of the two-day event, to climb to a fourth place finish in the final standings at the George Washington Invitational on Sunday.

Liberty bested its first round total of 309 by 20 strokes on the final day to climb from ninth place to fourth and finished just six strokes behind tournament champion Pennsylvania as the Quakers claimed the team title by finished the event with a 16-over par 592 (292-300).

Delaware fell just one shot short of Pennsylvania with a 17-over par 593 (295-298), while Villanova finished third with a 20-over par 596 (297-299) out of 26 teams with the even being played at the par-72, 6,761-yard Bear Trap Dunes Golf Club.

Seton Hall's Kyle Morris claimed individual medalist honors as he was one of two players to finish the 36 hole event in red numbers by carding a four-under par 140 (68-72), while George Washington's Brian Carroll finished second with a one-over par 143 (70-73).

Peter Horstman's four-under par 68 on the final day tied for the tournament's best individual round, while the career best round enabled the sophomore to finish in a tie for eighth place with a three-over par 147 (79-68).

Also finishing for the Flames were Jay Calvo, who tied for 35th place with an eight-over par 152 (78-74), Albie Powers, who tied for 41st place with nine-over par 153 (76-77) and Andrew Turner, who tied for 48th place with a 10-over par 154 (76-78).

Sam Nelson competed in the event as an individual and finished tied for 35th with an eight-over par 152 (79-73), while Parker McKoy carded a two-under par 70 on the final day after suffering a disqualification on the first 18 holes of competition.

The Flames return to action this weekend when they travel to Westover, Md. to compete in the Drew Upton Memorial Tiger Golf Classic. The two-day 36-hole event is played at the Great Hope Golf Course and hosted by Towson.
