Aaron Kelley picked up one of four Liberty wins against Purdue with a first period pin.

Late victories in the upper weight classes against Purdue enabled the Boilermakers to pick up a 24-19 dual victory over Liberty, while wrestling powerhouses Northern Illinois (43-4) and Illinois (41-0) also downed the Flames, Sunday afternoon, at the 19th annual Wendy's Big Classic Duals, hosted by Ashland University.

With the set of dual losses, Liberty falls to 3-8-1 on the season in dual matches. However, Liberty will have four chances to pick up victories this weekend, when the Flames host Bucknell, The Citadel, Davidson and Messiah in dual meets on Saturday. The five-team dual event is scheduled to start at 10 a.m., in Liberty's Schilling Center.

Liberty opened the day by squaring off against Northern Illinois, who boasted two nationally ranked grapplers. The Huskies opened the match quickly as T.J. Wunnicke pinned Sean Katz 33 seconds into the 125-pound match-up, setting the tone for the match.

No. 11-ranked Pat Castillo followed with a 17-4 major decision over Liberty's T.J. Mitchell, while five weight classes later, No. 13 Duke Burke picked up an 11-2 major decision win over Aaron Kelley at 174 pounds

Liberty's lone points in the 43-4 dual loss came at 149 pounds, as Scott Clymer recorded a 13-2 major decision win over Kalen Knull.

Liberty's second match-up of the afternoon wasn't any easier than its first. The Flames squared off against No. 15 ranked Illinois, falling 41-0 to the perennial wrestling authority.

Seven of the Fighting Illini's 10 wrestlers they sent to the wrestling mat ranked nationally in the top 20. Despite the lofty task, Liberty managed to take seven of the 10 matches all seven minutes, losing all by decision with the three other losses coming by fall.

In Liberty's final match-up of the afternoon, the Flames fell behind early to Purdue, with the Boilermakers winning a pair of decisions at 125 and 133 pounds.

Tim Harner got the Flames on the scoreboard at 141 pounds, pinning Matt Redmond in the first round (2:44), to knot the match at 6-6.

No. 19-ranked Jake Patacsil regained the lead for Purdue with a 9-0 major decision over Clymer at 149 pounds, a lead the Boilermakers would keep until the 174-pound match-up.

Chad Porter got the Flames a victory at 165 pounds with an 8-5 decision over Jason Martin, followed by Kelley's win by fall (1:44) over Nick Corpe, which gave Liberty a 15-13 edge.

However, Purdue got a decision win at 184 and a technical fall victory at 197 to secure the dual victory. Patrick Walker picked up his lone victory of the day at heavyweight with an 11-0 blanking of Chris Kasten, but the Boilermakers already had the match wrapped up.
