Alysson Sanders and the Lady Flames have earned the No. 1 seed for next week's Big South Volleyball Championship and will play their first match Friday at 7 p.m.

Liberty fans attending next weekend's Big South Volleyball Championship will not get to see the Lady Flames in action at the Vines Center until the second of Friday's two semifinals. Liberty has earned the No. 1 seed and a first-round bye after winning a tiebreaker with conference co-champion Winthrop, the Big South Conference office announced.

The Lady Flames will open play at the championship Friday at 7 p.m., against the winner of Thursday evening's match between No. 4 Coastal Carolina and No. 5 Radford. The victor will advance to Saturday's championship contest, slated for a 4 p.m. start.

The Lady Flames, who are hosting the tournament for the first time since 2001, have been the Big South's hottest team in recent weeks. Liberty has won a program-record 14-consecutive matches and 42 of its last 43 games. The Lady Flames bring a 24-7 overall mark and an 11-1 conference record into the tournament. Their conference regular-season title was Liberty's first since 2003.

Winthrop, also 11-1 in the conference, will be the tournament's No. 2 seed. The Eagles have won the last five Big South championships in succession. High Point, 8-4 in Big South action, earned the No. 3 seed.

Coastal Carolina and Radford finished conference play at 6-6 and 3-9, respectively, to obtain their aforementioned seeds. UNC Asheville is the No. 6 seed after posting a 2-10 loop mark, while No. 7 seed Charleston Southern had a 1-11 Big South record.

The Big South Volleyball Championship will open with a trio of opening-round tilts on Thursday, beginning at 2 p.m. An automatic bid to the NCAA Division I Volleyball Tournament will await the winner of Saturday's championship match.
