Liberty Men's Soccer Listed in South Atlantic Region Poll for Ninth-Consecutive Week
The Flames, 9-4-2 overall, currently hold down second place in the Big South Conference standings with a 4-1 mark in conference play. With its 3-1 victory over High Point last Wednesday night, head coach Jeff Alder's team has assured itself a No. 3 seed or higher for next weekend's Big South Men's Soccer Championship. The final seedings will be determined after the conclusion of the conference play this weekend. Virginia Tech moves atop the poll this week, as last week's top team, Boston College, drops to the No. 2 spot.
Liberty downed High Point, 3-1, on the road this past Wednesday in its only contest of the week. Senior Adrian Bumbut (F, Zalau, Romania) netted the first three-goal game of his career in the win. The forward enters the week tied atop the Big South lists for goals and points with 11 and 25, respectively on the season. In addition, Bumbut leads the conference with five game-winning goals.
Defensively, the Flames continue to lead the Big South with eight shutouts. Liberty currently is among the nation's elite in shutout percentage, ranking No. 12 in the country with a 0.53 percentage. The Flames have also yielded just 1.13 goals per contest, so far this season.
Liberty concludes its regular season tomorrow night by hosting VMI in a Big South match-up. Game time at Liberty Soccer Field is scheduled for 7 p.m. Before the contest, the 11 seniors on the Liberty roster will be recognized, as they participate in their final home game at Liberty Soccer Field.
