Liberty's Gelatt Selected to ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-America District III First Team
Gelatt, a senior, has started all 15 of Liberty's contests this season. The Indianapolis, Ind., native has been a key member of the Flames' defense, which has posted a Big South-leading eight shutouts this season, helping Liberty to a 9-4-2 overall mark and 4-1 record in conference play. The Flames have yielded just 1.13 goals per game this year. Liberty entered the week ranked 12th nationally in shutout percentage with a .570 percentage.
Off the field, the senior has excelled in the classroom, currently maintaining a 3.82 GPA in business, with a minor in chemistry. He has been a Dean's List member each of his six semesters at Liberty, and earned a 4.0 GPA in the 2006 Spring, 2005 Fall and 2004 Fall semesters. In addition, the defender has earned academic recognition by being named to the Big South Conference Presidential Honor Roll the past three academic years.
Gelatt now moves on for national Academic All-America team consideration. He and the Flames host VMI in their final regular-season contest of the 2007 season, Tuesday night at Liberty Soccer Field. Before the game, he and 10 other senior members of the Liberty roster, who will be playing in their final home game, will be honored. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
