Training Camp Position Previews: Safeties
With Liberty's football training camp now under way, LibertyFlames.com continues its annual position preview segments today by looking at the Flames' safeties.
Defensive coordinator Robert Wimberly, who also individually works with Liberty's safeties, will have three experienced players to help mentor several newcomers to this position.
Corbin Jackson started 10 of 11 games in 2016, finishing the year ranked fifth on the roster with a career-best 49 tackles (33 solo, 16 assisted). He also added 3.0 tackles for a loss and two pass breakups.
Brandon Tillmon and Rion Davis both started one game during their first season on the field for the Flames. Tillmon saw playing time in 10 games as a true freshman, ending the year with 24 tackles (19 solo, five assisted).
During Davis' redshirt freshman season, he saw playing time in all 11 games and finished the year with 19 tackles (nine solo, 10 assisted). Following spring practice, Davis was named the winner of the Samkon Gado Award, given to the most improved defensive player during the spring.
On the practice field today, the Flames received a break follow three straight practices in full pads as they working out in half pads during a morning practice. Tomorrow, LibertyFlames.com will provide its second interview of the week with head coach Turner Gill who will preview Saturday's scrimmage.
