Following the Liberty volleyball team's first practice on Tuesday, LFSN reporter Alan York had a chance to interview Head Coach Shane Pinder, along with senior Anna Willey and sophomore Anna Gragg.

Liberty returns nine players from its 2016 team, which went 16-13, including 11-5 in Big South play. The Lady Flames welcome eight student-athletes, including six freshmen and two junior college transfers. The team led the Big South and ranked 46th in the nation with 2.45 blocks per set last year, while ranking 32nd nationally with a .169 opponents' hitting percentage. Liberty was voted third in the 2017 Big South Preseason Coaches' Poll, with Gragg and Willey appearing on the Preseason All-Big South team.

The Lady Flames' fall training camp opened on Tuesday with a pair of practices. Liberty will hold its annual Blue-White Scrimmage, Aug. 22 at 6 p.m. at the LaHaye Multipurpose Gym.

The 2017 regular-season schedule opens on Aug. 25 in Charlottesville, Va., as the Lady Flames take on Villanova to start the Cavalier Classic.
