Game On: Catching Up with Niko Davis
Former Flames All-Big South defensive lineman Dominique "Niko" Davis hasn't given up on his dream of playing in the NFL and today's LFSN Game On feature provides an update on his continuing journey.
The native of Buffalo, N.Y., completed his playing career at Liberty in 2014, helping the Flames capture three Big South titles and make the team's first-ever NCAA FCS Playoff appearance in 2014. During his senior year, Davis had a banner campaign, ranking fifth on the team in tackles (61) and third in sacks (12.0) and tackles for a loss (7.5).
After graduation, Davis was invited to play in the inaugural College Gridiron Showcase game in Addison, Texas, allowing him the chance to showcase his talents before professional scouts. He caught the attention of NFL scouts from Pittsburgh and Kansas City, where he spent time in August training camps with the Steelers in 2015 and the Chiefs in 2016.
Hoping to continue his dream of making a NFL regular season roster, Davis joined the East team of the Spring League. The Spring League was created in early 2016 to serve as an instructional league and developmental platform for professional football talent. The League conducts practices and "live" exhibition games that are played in accordance to NFL rules.
