Bannister, McLean and Smith Recognized in Preseason Publications

As the 2007-08 season rapidly approaches, three members of the Liberty men's basketball squad have been acknowledged with preseason accolades in various publications.

Senior guard TeeJay Bannister, senior forward Alex McLean and junior guard Anthony Smith all have been named in three different publications.

Bannister (Jacksonville, Fla.), a transfer from Virginia, was named by the Sporting News as the top newcomer in the Big South Conference. This is the second-straight year a member of the Flames has earned such an honor. Last season Dwight Brewington, a transfer from Providence, earned the same accolade from CBS Sportsline.com.

McLean (Bay Shore, N.Y.) was named to the Big South preseason all-conference team in Lindy's and Athlon Sports' publications. McLean averaged 14.5 points per game, while finishing second in the conference with 8.9 rebounds per game, last season.

Smith (Plano, Texas) joined McLean on the Lindy's preseason all-conference team. Liberty's version of the human highlight film will pick up much of the backcourt scoring from the departed Larry Blair and Brewington. Smith averaged 11.4 points and 3.3 rebounds per game, while being the only member of the team to start every game, last season.

The dynamic trio will take the court for the first time when the Flames open up the regular season on Nov. 9, versus San Diego State, in Fresno, Calif., as part of the World Vision Classic.
