Thomas Previews 2017 Big South Men's Golf Championship
Prior to Liberty departing for Ninety Six, S.C., head golf coach Jeff Thomas spoke with LFSN reporter Alan York to preview this weekend's Big South Men's Golf Championship.
The Flames enter the three-day event as the defending Big South champion, having posted a 12-stroke victory over Campbell during last year's event. The tournament title was the Flames' four in the last six seasons with Liberty walking away from the event as the victor in 2011, 2012, 2014 and 2016.
Each of Liberty's four Big South titles were won at the Patriot Golf Club (par 72, 7,120 yards), the site of the conference championship tournament since 2008. The Patriot Golf Club will serve as the venue for this year's championship again with play getting underway on Friday morning.
The Flames enter the event as the No. 1 seed with Liberty holding the highest Golfstat national ranking in the conference. Liberty enters the event ranked No. 48 in the latest Golfstat ranking, a place the Flames have become familiar with this season. Liberty has been ranked inside the Golfstat top 50 national rankings all season, highlighted by a fall ranking at No. 22 in the country.
Hole-by-hole live scoring will be available throughout the event via Golfstat. @LUGameDay (Liberty's Game Day Twitter account) will be on the course providing more in-depth coverage of Liberty's golfers as they seek to capture the program's fifth conference title.
