Green Tabbed VaSID Rookie of the Year
Liberty post player Keyen Green added to her long list of accolades on Wednesday, as she was voted the 2016-17 Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) University Division Women's Basketball Rookie of the Year for the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Green becomes the Lady Flames' fourth VaSID Rookie of the Year all-time, joining Avery Warley (2008-09), Devon Brown (2009-10) and Reagan Miller (2011-12).
Green was previously honored as Big South Freshman of the Year, while earning spots on the second team All-Big South roster and the Big South All-Freshman Team. A native of Philadelphia, Pa., Green became the first player in conference history to win eight Big South Freshman of the Week honors (Dec. 5, Jan. 2, Jan. 9, Jan. 16, Feb. 6, Feb. 13, Feb. 20, Feb. 27).
An all-tournament team performer at the Navy Classic and Cavalier Classic, Green led all Big South players in field goal percentage (.598), offensive rebounds (3.6 rpg) and double-doubles (9). She also ranked second in rebounding (8.1 rpg), fourth in blocked shots (1.0 bpg), sixth in defensive rebounds (4.5 rpg) and 10th in scoring (12.3 ppg).
Green ranked No. 5 nationally among freshmen for rebounding on the season, and her 244 boards were the fifth most by a freshman in program history.
Other major award winners included Old Dominion's Jennie Simms (VaSID Player of the Year) and William & Mary Head Coach Ed Swanson (VaSID Coach of the Year).
