Host Liberty Finishes Ninth at Frank Landrey Invitational

Hosting the Frank Landrey Invitational, the Liberty men's golf team finished in ninth place out of 11 squads in the third and final round, at the 7,059-yard, par-72 Poplar Grove Golf Club, in Amherst, Va., on Tuesday.
Radford (290-287-283—860) won the event, finishing 10 strokes lower than Richmond (285-293-292—870). VCU (292-295-287—874) finished in third place, passing USC Upstate, who started the day trailing only Radford and Richmond.
Vincent Nadeau (69-71-66 – 206) of VCU started the day in third place, but shot a 66, to capture individual medalist honors. Nick Little (70-69-69—208), of Radford, finished in second place, two strokes back. Lanto Griffin (74-73-65 –212) came from 16th place to finish in third, after shooting a round-low 65.
Liberty (308-300-311—919) finished in ninth place, six strokes behind seventh-place James Madison (301-296-316—913). The Flames lost seven strokes when Jay Calvo was disqualified because he signed for the wrong score on his scorecard. Calvo would have had the lowest score on the squad, instead that honor went to Peter Horstman (74-78-78—230) who finished 14 over. Nathan Schenz-Davis (79-78-76—233) and Parker McKoy (82-75-76—233) finished side-by-side at 17 over, while Sang Chun (81-75-81—237) finished 21 over.
Liberty also had seven individuals participating in the tournament. Stephen Dooley (76-75-73—223) led the way at 9 over, while Andrew Nelson (76-73-76—225) and Chris Watters (75-76-74—225) finished at 10 over. Stephen Hawk (74-80-75—229) finished at 14 over, and Preston Dembowiak (78-72-82—232) finished 17 over. Jacob Singleton (80-79-75—234) finished 19 over while Manuel Moreno became the second Flame to be disqualified, as he was unable to complete the final round.
The Flames conclude their fall season at the Old Dominion Seascape Collegiate, October 29-30, at the Seascape Golf Course, located in Kitty Hawk, N.C.
