Introducing the New Lady Flames - Heather Smith
Scouting Report: Smith, who takes over the No. 12 jersey from graduated Michelle Parker, will see some playing time at Parker's old position, point guard. In addition to serving as one of senior Allyson Fasnacht's two understudies, the 5-11 Smith, may also figure into head coach Carey Green's plans at shooting guard. Wherever she plays, Smith will be counted upon defensively.
Credentials: Smith was a three-sport standout at Mahtomedi High School, just outside St. Paul, Minn. In addition to starting for four years as the Zephyrs' point guard, Smith also shone on the soccer pitch and in track & field. Smith, whose father played college football at St. Thomas University, started at forward for Mahtomedi's three soccer state championship teams. She also earned all-state honors in the long jump and established a school and conference record in the high jump. Smith was voted the best female athlete of her senior class.
Coach Green on Smith: "Heather is a tremendous athlete. She will contribute at the point guard position. She could also contribute as a defensive specialist early in her career. As she matures through gaining more experience at this level, Heather's athletic ability will provide even more of a challenge for opponents."
