200 Medley Relay Victory Highlights Liberty's Day 1 at CCSA Championships
The Liberty swimming & diving team earned a victory in the 200 medley relay, highlighting the first day of competition for the Lady Flames at the 2017 CCSA Swimming & Diving Championships. Liberty also posted a program-record-setting 800 free relay time on the evening.
Following the opening day at the CCSA Championships, Liberty sits fourth in the team standings with 120 points. Incarnate Word leads with 216 points, followed by Georgia Southern (174) and Florida Gulf Coast (140), in that order. Gardner-Webb and Campbell are tied with 102 points. Incarnate Word, Georgia Southern and Florida Gulf Coast benefitted from being the only three schools to compete in three-meter diving.
The Lady Flames won the 200 medley relay to get things started off. The quartet of Victoria Tschoke (25.56), Prudence Rooker (27.69), Brittany Weiss (23.96) and Rachel Hoeve (22.11) swam 1:39.32. Florida Gulf Coast clocked a winning time, but an early takeoff disqualified the Eagles. Liberty's time places second on the program's all-time top performers list.
Liberty closed the evening by placing second in the 800 free relay, as Hannah Baker (1:49.26), Delia Weber (1:48.80), Chelsea Pond (1:49.53) and Alicia Finnigan (1:48.91) set a program record, 7:16.50. Florida Gulf Coast won in 7:15.54.
The 2017 CCSA Swimming & Diving Championships continue tomorrow, when individual swimming events begin. Tomorrow's morning preliminary heats start at 10 a.m., with the 500 freestyle. Day two also features the 200 individual medley, 50 free and 200 free relay, with finals beginning at 6 p.m.
