Flames Midseason Review with Chad Wilt
During the football team's off week leading up to its Big South opener on Oct. 20 against Charleston Southern, LibertyFlames.com will be visiting with each of the program's coordinators and head coach Danny Rocco. Today, we conclude our visits with Liberty's three coordinators, as we sit down with special team's coordinator Chad Wilt.
Wilt kicks off the interview session by looking back at the first half of the year for his special teams unit, giving us a progress update. He continues by discussing the parts of the special team's play which have exceeded preseason expectations, and lists off a few areas Liberty needs to improve with regards to special teams heading into Big South play.
Wilt follows by breaking down each aspect of the Flames' special teams units, starting with the solid addition of placekicker Noah Greenbaum. He follows by talking about the play of punter Zac Kolegue and his transition to a new position this season.
The second-year special teams coordinator concludes the interview by talking about Liberty's potent return game. He discusses the explosive combination of Wynton Jackson and Dominic Bolden, and gives us some insight into how Liberty has adjusted to the NCAA rule change, as college programs are now kicking off from the 30-yard line.
Before ending the session, Wilt also talks about some of the up and coming players on Liberty's squad. Special teams plays is often the area where newcomers make their first impression on a coaching staff. This year is no different, as a few new faces are catching the eye of the Flames' coaching staff.
