Nicki Scripko has captured her first Big South New Balance Freshman of the Week award, after sparking the Lady Flames to a pair of conference victories over the weekend.

After hitting .429 in Liberty's weekend sweeps of Charleston Southern and Coastal Carolina, right-side hitter Nicki Scripko has been named the Big South Conference New Balance Freshman of the Week, the conference office announced today.

Scripko (Fayetteville, N.C.) hit an even .400, with 11 kills and eight digs, during the Lady Flames' 3-0 home triumph over Charleston Southern, last Friday. She then hit a career-best .448 the following afternoon against Coastal Carolina and led all players with 17 kills in the match. Her efforts aided in Liberty's 3-0 sweep of the Chanticleers, who entered the match unbeaten in conference play.

Liberty swept consecutive Big South foes for the first time since the final weekend of the 2003 season and now sits in second place in the conference standings, with a 4-1 Big South mark. The Lady Flames, 12-7 overall, have already eclipsed their win total from the 2006 season.

Scripko became the second Lady Flame to capture the Big South New Balance Freshman of the Week honor this season, joining Karyl Bacon (OH/DS, Temecula, Calif.), who won the award on Aug. 27. Two Liberty players—Kallie Corbin (So., S, Beaverton, Ore.) and Chelaine McCarty (So., MB, Houston, Ala.)—have also earned the Big South Choice Hotels Player of the Week award this year.

Scripko and the Lady Flames will continue their four-match homestand Friday at 7 p.m., when future Big South opponent Presbyterian makes its first-ever visit to the Vines Center.
