Liberty's Steven Ackley

Liberty's Steven Ackley

Senior Steven Ackley has been a staple on the Flames defensive line, having started the third-most games by an active player on Liberty's roster. Selected as one of five team captains heading into the 2007 campaign, Ackley has certainly been a driving force behind Liberty's defensive successes.

The Big South preseason all-conference selection currently has 142 career tackles, ranking second among active defenders on the squad.

II Corinthians 12:9 - It always reminds me of God's grace for us and that no matter what the struggle or dilemma God has more then enough power to help us through.

What is your favorite movie and why?
My favorite movie is Open Range. I don't really know why but I thought it was sweet.

What is your favorite memory while competing in your sport?
My freshman year, we played Gardner-Webb and beat them. It was a very dramatic game and I played so hard. It felt so good after we won. There is nothing better then to be completely exhausted and winning a game.

What is your most embarrassing memory while competing in your sport?
When I was a freshman, I went to sack a quarterback and I completely got shook. One of my buddies called me from the stands and left a message telling me that he could not believe how bad I just got shook. I definitely learned from it.

I came to Liberty because … I knew it was an awesome Christian school and I had to be a part of it. Also, I loved the players on the team. They were very welcoming.

My first car was … a 1991 Caprice Classic … I miss that thing.

If you could be somebody else for a day, who would you be and why?
I would be Dwight Freeney for the Indianapolis Colts. He is the best pass rusher in the NFL.

Who is your favorite Liberty athlete? Zack Davis (a.k.a. Zues Davis)

What is the best advice you have ever been given? The best advice ever given to me was, "a person's greatness is not measured by his wins and losses, but by his response when he falls."

If you could change one rule in your sport, what would it be and why? I would change the roughing the passer rule. I think it is so lame.

After graduation I would like to … coach football. I love this game and want to continue in it when I graduate.

In my spare time, I like to … hang out with the team and my girlfriend.

If you could compete in any sport against any athlete, who would it be and why?
I would want to beat Tiger Woods in golf.

My craziest ambition in life is to … own my own professional team.

Do you have any pre-game rituals? No, just prayer and focus.

Who is one person in history that you would like to meet and why?
I would meet Theodore Roosevelt. I think he was the coolest president we have ever had. I think he would have some sweet advice.

A place I've always wanted to visit, but never had the chance is (and why)?
I would want to visit Greece. I would love to see the landscape and would love to see all the history there.

I choose my uniform number because … it was my number when I went to Hargrave Military Academy and I have stuck with it.
