UC Irvine used two goals by midfielder Frankee Kelly to push the Anteaters past the Liberty Lady Flames, 2-0, in a women's soccer match on the second day of the Third Annual La Quinta Inn & Suites High Altitude Tournament at Northern Arizona's Lumberjack Stadium, Sunday afternoon.

Liberty falls to 0-3 on the season, while UC Irvine moves to 3-1.

The Anteaters controlled play in the first half, outshooting the Lady Flames 10-1 in the period.

Liberty's lone shot of the half came off the foot of Mallory Neff (Jr., MF, Sunbury, Pa.) in the contest's 44th minute, and it sailed wide.

After the Lady Flames weathered an early flurry of UC Irvine shots, the Anteaters broke through for their first score of the game at the 33:08 mark. Midfielder Caty Cope found Kelly with a pass and the midfielder found the back of the net for her first tally of the game, giving UC Irvine a 1-0 lead.

Play tightened in the second half, as the two squads traded scoring opportunities in the period.

Liberty opened the half by pressuring the Anteater net. The Lady Flames fired the first three shots of the period, as their defense shut down the UC Irvine offensive attack. Liberty came close to evening the match during the sequence, as a shot by Laura Nyholt (Fr., MF, Brampton, Ont.) in the 55th minute was blocked and Amy Oberlin (Jr., MF, Ada, Mich.) forced a save by Anteater keeper Danielle de Seriere on a shot attempt in the 59th minute.

UC Irvine and Liberty then traded shots throughout the middle part of the second half until the Anteaters converted a corner kick opportunity to extend their advantage to 2-0, the contest's final margin.

Off the corner, Cope once again connected with Kelly, who headed in the crossing pass for her second goal of the afternoon, at 70:38.

UC Irvine outshot Liberty, 16-7, in the contest, while holding an 8-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Liberty netminder Ashley Nyholt (Fr., Brampton, Ont.) made two saves in 73 minutes, while Lauren Khampius (So., Bloomington, Ill.) did not have to make a save during her 17 minutes in the Lady Flames' net. DeSeriere recorded one save for the Anteaters.

Liberty returns to Virginia for its first home match of the season, Saturday evening. The Lady Flames will host the Old Dominion Monarchs at Liberty Soccer Field. Match time is set for 6 p.m.
