2007 Countdown to Kickoff Central

Behind the nation's best football turnaround a year ago and the strongest returning class in recent history, the enthusiasm surrounding this year's football program has helped spur record numbers for the Flames Club, heading into the pending season.

Last year, the Flames Club shattered previous organizational records, when they finished the year with $243,000 in annual giving, at the close of the 2006 calendar year.

This year, the booster club has enrolled 244 members for $260,000, meaning the organization's average gift per person is $1,066. At this point in 2006, the Flames Club had 180 members for $119,000 in total giving (an average gift of $661).

Liberty Athletics Development has also been aggressively pursuing capital gifts outside of the Flames Club this calendar year, has also reached record heights. Capital gifts are made to help build or improve facilities and, unlike Flames Club contributions, do not result in any benefits for the donor. At the conclusion of the week, total contributions to Liberty Athletics for Flames Club or capital giving purposes had reached $930,000, just $70,000 shy of the $1 million mark for the first time in history.

"It is exciting to see our support base growing in the local community, as a result of the excitement around our football team and the perceived direction of our entire Athletics programs," commented Development and Flames Club director Bob Good. "It is also very rewarding to see so many of our alumni and friends from around the country joining with us in supporting the Flames in record numbers. We have come a long way in the past couple of years, but we know this is just the beginning."

Last year, the Flames Club expanded its membership opportunities with the addition of the Student Flames Club, which finished the end of the basketball season with 557 members. At the end of this past week, Liberty has already enrolled 543 Student Flames Club members for this athletics season.
