Megan and Moriah Frazee Lead the Way for Liberty
Megan and Moriah Frazee combined for 37 of the Liberty's 73 points as they led the Lady Flames to 73-56 victory over William and Mary Saturday evening in the Vines Center.
William & Mary (2-2) took advantage of several early turnovers as the Lady Flames committed five giveaways in the first five minutes of the game, enabling the Tribe to jump out to an eight-point lead as a jumper by Devin James gave the visitors a 9-1 lead with 14:53 left to play in the first half.
However, Liberty (2-1) quickly responded and took over the lead as the Lady Flames scored 11-straight points as Roli-Ann Nikagbatse (So., G/F, Berlin, Germany) stole a pass a mid-court and connected on a fast-break lay-up to give Liberty a 12-9 lead at the 10:57 mark.
The two teams traded baskets back and forth over the next several minutes with a pair of free throws by Megan Frazee (Fr., G/F, Xenia, Ohio) putting the Lady Flames up four, 20-16, while a jumper by Kyra Kaylor trimmed the lead back to three points, 22-19, at the 6:16 mark.
However, that would be the last time that the Tribe would score until the waning seconds of the period as Liberty put together a 14-0 run to push its lead to 17 points before Lizzie Schiel knocked down a three-pointer with nine seconds left before halftime to cut Liberty's halftime margin to 14 points, 36-22.
The Lady Flames maintained their lead over the first three minutes of the second half as a pair of free throws by Moriah Frazee (Fr., G/F, Xenia, Ohio) gave the Lady Flames a 16-point lead, 42-26, at the 17:21 mark. But William & Mary scored eight-straight points to cut the lead in half on a three-pointer by Kaylor.
But that would be the closest that the Tribe would get over the remainder of the game as the Lady Flames responded with a 16-4 run to open up a 20-point lead and cruise to the non-conference victory.
For the third time in as many games, Megan Frazee recorded a double-double, leading the way for Liberty with a game-high 22 points and 12 rebounds, while going 10-of-12 from the free throw line. Moriah Frazee was perfect from the charity stripe as she knocked down seven free throws and posted a season-high 15 points.
For the Tribe, Kaylor posted a double-double 15 points and 10 rebounds, while Schiel scored 10 points on 3-of-11 shooting.
The Lady Flames dominated the glass, outrebounding William and Mary by 26 (54 to 28), while collecting a season-high 23 offensive boards.
Liberty will take a week off before heading to Raleigh, N.C., to participate in the N.C. State Tournament. The Lady Flames take on Southern Miss on December 3 at 3 p.m.
