The Flames stood just eight strokes off the pace of play after the completion of the first round earlier in the morning; however, Liberty struggled a bit on the second 18 holes and currently stand in 11th place out of 14 teams at the Raines Development Group Intercollegiate, hosted by Francis Marion at the Country Club of South Carolina.

The Flames fired a two-over-par 290 round in their first 18 holes of competition of the 2005-06 season and were just eight shots behind co-first round leaders South Carolina-Aiken and Elon who led the field by carding six-under-par rounds of 282.

However, only South Carolina-Aiken could keep up the hot streak as the Pacers bettered their opening round by finishing the day with a 12-under-par round of 276 to lead the field by 11 strokes (282-276-558) as host Francis Marion stands in second place at seven-under-par 569 (288-281). The Flames currently stand in 11th place overall with a 36-hole 15-over-par total of 591 (290-301).

USCA's Scott Brown leads the field of 75 players as he carded a seven-under-par 137 (70-67) on the first day of competition, while fellow teammate Dane Burkhart (71-68) and Western Carolina's Matt Cook (71-68) are both two shots behind at five-under-par 139.

The Flames are being paced by Andrew Turner (72-74) and Parker McCoy (71-75) as both players are tied for 30th place with a two-over-par 144.

Jay Calvo fired the best round of the day for the Flames as he started off his collegiate career with a two-under-par 70, but faltered on the second 18 and fell back to a tied for 39th place as he is at three-over-par 147 (70-77) after two rounds. Sam Nelson is tied for 56th with an eight-over-par 152 (77-75), while Peter Horstman is tied for 71st with a 14-over-par 158 (80-78) to round out the Flames' golfers.

The Flames will return to action tomorrow for a final 18 holes of competition at the par 72, 7,062 Country Club of South Carolina course.
