Auburn Transfer McCarty Set to Join Lady Flames
Liberty University Head Volleyball Coach Shane Pinder has announced the signing of Chelaine McCarty, who will join the Lady Flames after playing her freshman season at Auburn.
McCarty (6-1, MB, Addison, Ala.) will have three years of eligibility remaining and will be able to play for the Lady Flames during the 2007 season. She is the third member of Liberty's incoming class of players, joining Karyl Bacon (5-6, LIB/OH, Temecula, Calif.) and Nicki Scripko (6-1, OH, Fayetteville, N.C.).
"We are excited about Chelaine signing with our program, remarked Liberty head coach Shane Pinder. "First and foremost, Chelaine is a team player with a strong faith, which makes her a great fit for Liberty volleyball. Due to the graduation of two middle hitters (Autum Black and Rachel Denton), it is a position at which we currently lack depth."
At Auburn, McCarty made two appearances, including a start, as a freshman. Her collegiate debut came in a 3-0 victory over Southeastern Louisiana at the South Alabama Jaguar Challenge. In the match, McCarty contributed two blocks, an ace and a kill. She later earned a spot in the starting line-up at conference rival Ole Miss, totaling a dig and a block in the match. McCarty was additionally named an Academic Top Tiger as a result of her work in the classroom.
McCarty was one of two Alabama players to be named a PrepVolleyball.com High School All-American, after an extremely successful career at Addison High School. She led the Lady Bulldogs to three consecutive 1A state titles and an overall 201-5 record in those three seasons. As a senior, McCarty's team went 67-0 and she earned her second straight state tournament MVP honor.
A three-time all-state, all-region, all-area and all-county pick, McCarty accumulated 2,031 career kills and 592 blocks at Addison. She also won three consecutive gold medals at the Alabama Sports Festival (2003-05). McCarty enjoyed success in track & field as well, winning a pair of Alabama state high jump titles.
In the classroom, McCarty graduated fifth in her senior class and earned inclusion in the "Who's Who Among American High School Students" publication. She additionally attended the Congressional Student Leadership Conference.
"Chelaine is a strong, athletic middle hitter who brings with her a year of experience from the SEC Conference," added Pinder. "As a staff, we feel fortunate to sign an athlete at Chelaine's level this late in the recruiting process."
