Jeffs Named to ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Team
The honors keep rolling in for Liberty second baseman Dawn Jeffs, as the senior was named to the 2007 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District second team as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Thursday.
Jeffs (Roseville, Calif.) currently holds a 3.67 cumulative GPA as a social sciences major. The middle infielder was named to the Big South Presidential Honor Roll last year and has been named to the Dean's List all three semesters since transferring to Liberty last fall from Biola.
Last night, Jeffs was one of five Lady Flames honored at the annual Big South Softball Awards Banquet, kicking off the 2007 Big South Softball Championship in Conway, S.C.
Jeffs was named to the Big South first-team all-conference squad for the second-straight season and she was one of six student-athletes named to the Big South All-Academic team.
The senior currently leads the Big South with a school-record 89 hits, breaking her own record of 86 set last year. She has also posted career-high numbers with 54 runs and 15 home runs.
Jeffs ranks second on the squad with a .414 batting average, starting all 60 games at second base. She is tied for the team lead with 14 doubles and boasts the squad's second-best slugging percentage, .698.
Jeffs' selection to a CoSIDA All-District team marks the program's first since 2003, when Ali Thompson was named to the regional academic team. Jeffs joins three former Lady Flames as CoSIDA Academic All-District honorees. Thompson was named to the second team in 2003, preceded by Sonja Keith (1997-98-99) and Stacy Radulovich (1998), who were both first-team selections.
Jeffs and the rest of the Lady Flames squad will open play at the Big South Softball Championship later on today when they face No. 4 Coastal Carolina in Game 3 at 3 p.m., hosted by Coastal Carolina at the CCU Softball Field.
