2007 Big South Softball Championship Bracket

For the third time in program history, the Lady Flames softball team finished atop the Big South regular-season standings, giving Liberty the No. 1 seed in the upcoming Big South Softball Championship, to be hosted by Coastal Carolina in Conway, S.C., on May 10-12, 2007.

Liberty tied a school record for conference wins in a single season by finishing atop the league standings with an 11-4 record. The Lady Flames also won 11 league games in 1999 (11-3).

The Lady Flames ended the regular-season slate tied with Winthrop, but claimed the tiebreaker by taking two out of three games from the Eagles over a three-game set in Rock Hill, S.C., April 6-7.

This marks the third time Liberty has laid claim to the conference's regular-season championship. In 1999, Liberty finished the regular-season schedule tied with East Carolina for the title and won the regular-season crown outright in 2000 with a 9-1 record.

This year also represents the second time in program history Liberty has entered the Big South Softball Championship as the top seed. Liberty lost the head-to-head tiebreaker with East Carolina in 1999, but was the No 1. seed in 2000, when the Lady Flames advanced to the title game in a tournament also hosted by Coastal Carolina.

No. 1 seed Liberty will open play at the 2007 Big South Softball Championship in Game 3 at 3 p.m., Thursday afternoon, where the Lady Flame will face the victor of the No. 4 seed Coastal Carolina and No. 5 Birmingham-Southern contest, which opens the three-day event at 10 a.m.

Winthrop shared the regular-season title, earning the No. 2 seed at 11-4. Radford, with its 9-4 record, will be the No. 3 seed, followed by No. 4 Coastal Carolina (7-7), No. 5 Birmingham-Southern (5-10) and No. 6 Charleston Southern (2-13).

Liberty will be vying for its second-ever Big South Softball Championship title after claiming the crown with a perfect 4-0 record in 2002, earning with the program's first trip to the NCAA Regionals.

The 2007 Softball Championship begins Thursday with four games scheduled and continues with double-elimination bracket play through the title game on Saturday. The Big South Championship's victor receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Regionals. The conference Championship schedule is as follows:
