Jennifer Ward finished just 16 points shy of her personal-best heptathlon score, on her way to fourth place in the event at the Liberty Twilight Qualifier.

Liberty junior Jennifer Ward finished fourth in the heptathlon, the final three events of which were contested Friday afternoon at the Matthes-Hopkins Track Complex, wrapping up the Liberty Twilight Qualifier.

Ward (Martinsville, Va.), who found herself in fourth place at the end of Thursday's competition, remained there despite closing with a season-best 2:24.54 clocking in the 800 meters. Her final point total of 4,251 fell just 16 points short of her personal-best mark of 4,267, which netted her second place at the recent Big South Championships.

Meredith Withers of Roanoke College was the event champion, totaling 4,489 points to outdistance Washington & Lee's Stacey Doornbos by 155 points. Withers is no stranger to the Liberty track, as she previously won the heptathlon at the ASICS Collegiate Invitational, on March 31.

The Flames and Lady Flames will return to action at the men's IC4A and women's ECAC Championships, which are slated to be contested May 11-13, in Princeton, N.J.
