Lady Flames Sweep Big South Weekly Softball Awards as Jeffs and Lowe are Honored
This marks the second-consecutive week and the third time this year Lowe (Sr., RHP, Chesapeake, Va.) has received the award, tying her with Radford's Ashley Taylor as the most-frequently honored pitcher this year by the conference.
Jeffs (Sr., 2B, Roseville, Calif.) is receiving her second-such prize as she was also named Player of the Week on April 2. In total, Liberty has taken home the weekly player honor six times out of 11 total weeks, including five out of the last six.
Lowe and Jeffs both played key roles in helping Liberty climb to the top of the Big South regular-season standings last week when the Lady Flames took their fourth-consecutive conference series, going 2-1 against Coastal Carolina. Liberty now has a 9-3 conference record and stands tied with Winthrop for the league's top spot with one weekend left to play.
Jeffs finished the week batting .444 (8-for-18), hitting safely in all five contests to extend her hitting streak to 11-straight games. Half of her hits fell for extra bases, enabling her to finish the week with a .833 slugging percentage.
The senior second baseman was a combined 3-for-7 with two runs, a RBI, a double and a triple in a doubleheader against Longwood last Tuesday. She finished the Coastal Carolina weekend set batting a combined 5-for-8 with two runs, a double and a home run against the Chanticleers.
Lowe finished the week with a 1-1 record and a 2.15 ERA, fanning 21 batters during 13.0 innings of work. The hurler's week was highlighted by a 13-strikeout no-hitter in a 4-0 victory over Coastal Carolina last Friday, marking the senior's second no-hitter of the year.
On the year, Jeffs leads the Lady Flames with a .431 batting average. She has also totaled 14 home runs, 35 RBI and a .721 slugging percentage. The senior stands just one hit shy of breaking her own team single-season record as she leads the Big South with 85 hits.
Lowe is the Lady Flames' top hurler with a 15-7 record and a 2.43 ERA. Her 21 strikeouts last week upped her season total to 144, which ranks seventh best in school history.
Jeffs and Lowe will be two of five seniors the Lady Flames will honor prior to the start of their doubleheader against No. 18/23 Virginia Tech, tomorrow afternoon. The final home doubleheader of the year is slated to begin at 3 p.m. at the Liberty Softball Field.
