Castro Signs Wiseman to Wrestling National Letter of Intent
"Chandler comes to Liberty from one of the toughest wrestling states in the country," commented Castro. "His particular weight class at the state championships was loaded with talent. Chandler is a great fit for Liberty as he is passionate about the sport, and the Lord. What better combination can we ask for?"
Wiseman was a four-year standout at Barrington High School in Barrington, Ill., where he posted a career 153-18 record on the mats (89.5 winning percentage).
Wiseman opened his prep career by tallying a 52-2 record as a freshman, followed by a 26-4 mark as a sophomore. In 2006, Wiseman recorded a 31-7 mark, before he capped off his high school career with a 44-5 record this past season.
During his senior year, Wiseman finished third at the Moore Prettyman Invitational Tournament, a championship which featured the top teams from California, Illinois and Iowa. The conference and sectional champion also placed fifth at the state tournament as a senior.
"Competing under the shield of the Lord will be awesome," stated Wiseman. "Wrestling for a team that respects me, a coach that cares about me and for a God who loves me is so great."
Wiseman, who is a versatile athlete as he is also a four-year varsity starter in gymnastics, is the Flames first signee of the academic year. He joins the Flames wrestling program in its second year following the program's reinstatement after a 12-year hiatus.
Liberty posted a banner comeback campaign this year which included a 16-8 dual meet record, a team championship at the NCAA East Regional and four wrestlers advancing to the NCAA National Championship.
