Liberty senior Jonita Randolph has been named the 2007 Big South Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Year, as the conference's postseason awards were announced Wednesday at the Big South Tennis Championship banquet.

Randolph also received several other conference honors. The senior was not only the recipient of the Player of the Year award, becoming the first Lady Flame to ever earn the distinction, but was also named to her third consecutive all-academic team as well as the all-conference team in singles. In addition, Randolph and partner Martyna Hanusz won their second consecutive all-conference recognition in doubles.

Randolph enjoyed a memorable year during her final collegiate campaign. The Townville, S.C., native posted a 15-1 singles record, with all of her matches played at No. 1. Her 15 wins were highlighted by two notable triumphs. On March 14 against Birmingham-Southern, Randolph's victory allowed her to become Liberty's all-time winningest tennis player, man or woman.

In addition, the senior's March 31 triumph against Coastal Carolina gave her 50 career victories, making the Lady Flame stalwart the first Liberty tennis player to ever reach the plateau. Her .938 winning percentage at No. 1 singles was the highest among conference players with more than one decision.

Randolph and Hanusz, Liberty's top doubles pairing, posted an 8-6 record in the doubles ranks despite Hanusz battling injuries for a portion of the season. The pair's wins during the campaign included defeats of James Madison and Campbell.

The two award winners will look to lead the Lady Flames to victory on Thursday, when Liberty opens the Big South Tennis Championships by taking on High Point. Match time on the campus of Radford University is scheduled for 11 a.m.
