Swor Keeps Lady Flames Streak Alive by being Named Big South Player of the Week
The honor for Swor marks the fourth-straight week a Liberty softballer has been named Player of the Week and the sixth time this year the conference has bestowed a weekly award on a Lady Flame.
It also marks the second time this year Swor has been named Big South Player of the Week, as the senior also took home the honor on Feb. 20 when she batted .625 with five hits, seven RBI and two home runs in Liberty's opening weekend of the year.
This past week, Swor led the Lady Flames from the plate by batting .600 (6-for-10) with four of her six hits going for extra bases, including a double and three home runs. The senior also added three runs, eight RBI and a 1.600 slugging percentage to pace Liberty during its three-game sweep of Charleston Southern.
In the first game of the series, Swor was a perfect 3-for-3, including a game-sealing two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth inning during Liberty's 4-1 victory over the Buccaneers. In the nightcap on Friday, Swor was 2-for-3 with a RBI double in the second and a game-winning two-run homer in the sixth, helping Liberty complete the doubleheader sweep with a 4-2 win.
On Saturday, Swor posted her third-straight game with a home run, hitting a three-run blast in the first inning to give Liberty a lead it would never relinquish during its 7-2 series finale victory. The senior also came in to pitch 2 1/3 innings of effective relief during the 7-2 win as she fanned two batters without surrendering a hit to help Liberty secure the series sweep.
On the year, Swor ranks fifth on the squad as she is batting .268 and ranks fourth on the team with five home runs. The five round trippers tie Swor's career best set last year..
Swor is joined by Dawn Jeffs (April 2), Jessica Moore (April 9) and Ashley Williams (March 26) in receiving Big South Player of the Week honors this year, and Terra Lowe was named Big South Pitcher of the Week on March 19.
Swor and the Lady Flames host cross town opponent Lynchburg College tomorrow afternoon in a non-conference doubleheader. The afternoon's first pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. at the Liberty Softball Field.
