Flames Seeded Eighth For Big South Men's Tennis Championships
With the conclusion of conference play Saturday afternoon, Liberty ended its regular season with a 4-16 record and a 0-7 mark in Big South contests. The Flames will open tournament play by taking on the No. 1 seeded Winthrop Eagles at 8 a.m. on Thursday. Winthrop, who went 6-1 in Big South play this season, defeated Liberty 6-1 in the two teams' regular season meeting. Juan Reyes earned the Flames' victory in the March 17 tilt in Rock Hill, S.C., as the Liberty freshman won his match at No. 6 singles.
Radford, despite finishing the season with the same conference record as Winthrop, was relegated to the No. 2 seed due to dropping their regular season meeting with the Eagles. The Highlanders, led by nationally-ranked player Martin Sayer, will take on Birmingham-Southern in the opening round. Other first-round match-ups in the tournament feature No. 3 seed Charleston Southern, coming off a 5-2 conference effort, taking on the sixth-seeded UNC Asheville Bulldogs, and the fourth-seeded High Point Panthers matching up with No. 5 seed Coastal Carolina.
The 2007 Big South Men's Tennis Championships will take place at the campus of Radford University in Radford, Va. The tournament is scheduled to begin on Thursday at 8 a.m., and is expected to conclude with the championship match on Saturday at 9 a.m.
