Clendon Henderson is the overwhelming favorite in the discus at the upcoming New Balance Big South Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

For the third time in the last four weeks, a Liberty athlete has won the Big South Conference Choice Hotels Men's Outdoor Track & Field Athlete of the Week award. This week's winner is junior Clendon Henderson, who set a new Big South record in the discus, Friday at the Texas Relays.

Henderson (Meadow, Texas) threw the discus 181-9, improving upon his own Liberty and conference record in the event, to place third in the event. The mark put him atop the Big South Conference performance list by over 19 feet and improved his standing on the NCAA regional qualifying chart. He has qualified for the regional meet in both the discus and the hammer throw.

Earlier in the day, Henderson had recorded another top five finish in Austin. He threw the shot put a season-best 54-10 to take fifth in the competition. The junior ranks second in the conference in the shot put.

Three different Flames have won the athlete of the week award during the current outdoor season. In addition to Henderson's honor, Jon Hart (Jr., Wyomissing, Pa.) captured the award on March 21 and Josh McDougal (Jr., Peru, N.Y.) won it on April 4.

Liberty will have its final tune-up for the New Balance Big South Outdoor Track & Field Championships this Saturday at the James Madison Invitational, set to begin at 11 a.m.
