Ashley Williams recorded her first career multiple home run game in Liberty's 7-2 win over Winthrop.

Ashley Williams hit a pair of three-run home runs, helping the Lady Flames to a 7-2 win over Winthrop, Friday afternoon, at Terry Field.

The victory gave Liberty a conference doubleheader split on the afternoon, moving Liberty's overall record to 23-16 and 1-1 in Big South action.

Liberty seemed to continue with it offensive momentum as consecutive infield hits by Shannon McKain and Jessica Moore set the stage for Ashley Williams as the junior took the first pitch offered by starter Cari Wooldridge over the fence in left, staking Liberty to a quick 3-0 lead.

The Lady Flames extended their lead to four runs, 4-0, in the fourth as Sarah Swor led off the frame with a single to center field and later scoring on an infield ground out by J'nae Jefferson.

Winthrop got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth as Lauren Hill hit her fifth home run of the year, a solo home run to right field, trimming Liberty's lead to three runs, 4-1.

The Eagles continued to cut into Liberty's advantage in the fifth as Tessa Thomas doubled to the gap in right center field and scored on a RBI base hit through the right side of the infield by Stephanie Reid.

But Williams put the game out of reach in the top of the seventh with her second three-run dinger of the game, pushing Liberty's lead to its final five-run margin.

Dawn Jeffs singled down the left-field line to start the frame, followed by Moore's single up the middle, set the stage for Williams to record her first career multiple home run game with a three-run blast over the fence in left-center field.

Terra Lowe upped her record to 8-5 on the year, picking up the win for Liberty, as the senior allowed two runs on six hits, fanning two batters during five innings of work. Sarah Ellis picked up her team-leading third save of the year, allowing two hits during the final two innings of the contest.

Williams paced the way for Liberty as the catcher was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and a career-best six RBI. Moore followed by going 3-for-4 with two runs scored and Jeffs was 2-for-4 with an additional run scored.

Liberty and Winthrop will conclude the three-game Big South Conference series tomorrow afternoon with a single game at Terry Field. First pitch of the contest is set for Noon.
