Liberty Volleyball Releases 2014 Schedule
2014 Liberty Volleyball Schedule
A home match against Virginia and Liberty's first home tournament since 2011 highlight Liberty's 2014 fall volleyball schedule, which was released today by 11th-year head coach Shane Pinder.
In 2014, the Lady Flames will compete in four tournaments, including one in North Carolina, Virginia, Rhode Island and Tennessee. Liberty will face a pair of teams (Radford and Fairfield) which qualified for the 2013 NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball Championship. A total of 13 home matches give Lynchburg fans many opportunities to see the Lady Flames at the Vines Center.
Liberty opens its schedule on Aug. 29-30, at a tournament hosted by Elon. While in Elon, the Lady Flames will face the host Elon Phoenix, along with San Jose State and Maryland of the ACC.
Following a match at longtime Commonwealth foe James Madison on Sept. 2, the Lady Flames return home to host the Liberty Invitational on Sept. 5-6 to open the home schedule. Howard, Murray State, USC Upstate and UNCG will all visit the Vines Center to take on Liberty that weekend.
A trip to the nation's capital ensues, as Liberty will play at Georgetown, Sept. 9.
On Sept. 12-13, the team travels to Rhode Island for the first time in program history, competing in a tournament at the Ivy League's Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. Liberty will meet Fairfield, the 2013 MAAC champion and NCAA Tournament qualifier, in addition to Brown and UMass-Lowell.
The Lady Flames close out the tournament portion of their schedule, Sept. 19-20, as the Belmont Tournament in Nashville, Tenn. The Lady Flames' opponents in Nashville will be Belmont, Northern Kentucky and Wright State.
Liberty hosts Virginia of the ACC on Sept. 23 at the Vines Center, the Lady Flames' first home match against the Cavaliers since Oct. 10, 2000.
The squad hosts Radford on Sept. 26 to open its 14-match conference schedule. It will be a rematch of the 2013 Big South semifinal, which Radford won, 3-2, on the way to the tournament championship.
The Lady Flames head to North Carolina for weekend matches at Gardner-Webb (Oct. 3) and UNC Asheville (Oct. 4), before returning to Lynchburg for Big South contests against Campbell and High Point on Oct. 10 and Oct. 11, respectively.
A home match against William & Mary on Oct. 14 serves as the team's final non-conference tilt of the regular season.
Liberty makes a trip to South Carolina to face Charleston Southern on Oct. 17, before playing at Coastal Carolina on Oct. 18.
A pair of South Carolina teams, Presbyterian College (Oct. 24) and Winthrop (Oct. 25) visit the Vines Center on Family Weekend.
The Lady Flames wrap up their away schedule with three straight matches on the road. The squad plays at Radford on Oct. 31, before competing at High Point on Nov. 7 and at Campbell, Nov. 8.
Liberty hosts UNC Asheville, Nov. 14, before closing out the regular season against Gardner-Webb, Nov. 15 at the Vines Center. The team will celebrate senior day prior to the home match versus Gardner-Webb.
The 2014 Big South Volleyball Championship will be hosted by Coastal Carolina in Conway, South Carolina, Nov. 20-23. The winner of the conference tournament receives the Big South's automatic qualifying bid to the 2014 NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball Championship.
The 2014 NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball Championship is scheduled to begin on Dec. 5.
