Liberty freshman Zach Davis and senior Josh MacDonald each recorded 28th-place finishes in their respective events on the final day of the 2014 NCAA Division I East Preliminary Round meet, Saturday at Hodges Stadium.

Liberty failed to qualify any athletes to the 2014 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships during the three-day meet, snapping the Flames' 10-year streak of representation at the NCAA national championship.

Davis cleared each of the first two heights in the men's high jump without a miss, topping out at 6-8.75. However, he was unsuccessful at 6-10.75 and tied for 28th place overall in his NCAA Preliminary Round debut.

Running his second race in as many nights, MacDonald moved up through the field during the final mile of the men's 5K. He ended up 13th in his heat and 28th overall with a time of 14:37.01 in the last race of his impressive collegiate track & field career.

Teammate and fellow senior Caleb Edmonds ran inside the top 10 for most of his men's 5K heat. However, he went down with an injury with just under a mile remaining and was unable to finish the race.

Liberty freshmen Davis, Oasis Hernandez and Mary Witmer have all posted qualifying marks for the USATF Junior Outdoor Track & Field Championships and are expected to compete in that event this summer.
