Karlsson Set to Make PGA Tour Canada Debut Today
Former Flames standout golfer Robert Karlsson will make his PGA Tour Canada debut today when he tees off at the PC Financial Open, the opening event of the 2014 PGA Tour Canada season.
The four-day tournament will be contested at the prestigious Point Grey Golf & Country Club in Vancouver, British Columbia.
The event is the first of 12 tournaments on the 2014 PGA Tour Canada schedule, which culminates with the Tour Championship of Canada, Sept. 11-14, played at the Sunningdale Golf and Country Club in London, Ontario.
PGA Tour Canada is a series of tournaments played across Canada each summer. The five leading money winners at the end of each season earn full player status on the Web.com Tour for the following season.
With five players earning Web.com Tour status each season, tomorrow's stars on the Web.com Tour and PGA Tour are getting their start on PGA Tour Canada today. A long list of PGA Tour Canada alumni includes Graham DeLaet, Mike Weir, Steve Stricker, David Hearn, Brad Fritsch and more.
Karlsson is a two-time Big South Golfer of the Year (2010 and 2011), who earned GCAA/PING All-America third-team honors in 2012.
The program's all-time career stroke leader (72.02) won six tournaments during his four-year career at Liberty. He twice won Big South Championship medalist honors (2010 and 2012) and finished tied for first at the 2012 NCAA Greensboro Regional.
Karlsson helped Liberty win Big South titles in 2011 and 2012. He led the Flames to their first two of four-straight NCAA Regionals (2011 and 2012) and a 10th place finish at the 2012 NCAA Men's Golf National Championship at Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif.
