Yesterday afternoon, the No. 1 seed Liberty Flames opened the 2014 Big South Championship with a 3-0 victory over No. 8 seed Gardner-Webb at Winthrop Ballpark in Rock Hill, S.C.

2014 Big South Pitcher of the Year Trey Lambert pitched 7 2/3 scoreless innings in running his record to 11-2 on the year.  The right-hander scattered four hits.

With the victory, Liberty runs its record to 40-14 on the year.  It is the fourth time in program history, the Flames have won 40 or more games in a season with three of them coming under 2014 Big South Coach of the Year Jim Toman.

Liberty returns to action at the Big South Baseball Championship, this evening.  The Flames will square off with the No. 4 seed High Point Panthers.  Game time is scheduled for 8 p.m.
