Liberty Men's Soccer Announces 2014 Schedule
A non-conference match at N.C. State and eight home contests highlight a challenging 2014 slate for the Liberty Flames men's soccer team.
"This schedule will be difficult and challenging for our group", stated head coach Jeff Alder, who will enter his 14th year at the helm of his alma mater. "We will play a number of different teams who have done well in their conferences."
"The different styles of play will prepare us for our Big South Conference games as we try to compete for a regular season title and a high seed in the conference tournament."
Liberty will get its 2014 season underway with exhibitions against Virginia Tech and UNCG. Virginia Tech will visit Liberty's Osborne Stadium on Aug. 16, while UNCG will host the Flames on Aug. 23.
Six days later, Liberty will open its 2014 regular season and the 39th year of Liberty men's soccer by hosting Bluefield at Osborne Stadium on Aug. 29 at 6 p.m.
The Flames will open the September part of their schedule with four games away from Lynchburg, including three in Lexington, Va. Liberty will visit VMI, who will be a member of the Southern Conference in 2014, Sept. 2, before traveling to Marshall for a contest on Sept. 7.
The following weekend, the Flames will return to Lexington, Va., to take part in a tournament at VMI. On Sept. 12, Liberty will face Robert Morris to open the tournament and on Sept. 14, square off with USC Upstate to close out the tournament.
Liberty will then host non-conference matches against Davidson on Sept. 20 and Howard on Sept. 23.
The Flames finish the month of September by starting their Big South Conference schedule. Liberty will open its conference slate at Winthrop on Sept. 27.
Liberty will continue the stretch of four conference games with a home match with High Point on Oct. 7, sandwiched between contests at Radford on Oct. 4 and Gardner-Webb on Oct. 11.
The Flames will then face American on Oct. 14 in a non-conference match and Big South opponent Coastal Carolina on Oct. 18, before traveling to Longwood for a conference contest on Oct. 22.
Liberty will finish the month with a Big South match at Osborne Stadium against UNC Asheville on Oct. 25 and a non-conference contest at N.C. State on Oct. 28.
The Flames will close out their regular season with two conference matches. Liberty will travel to Presbyterian College for a contest on Nov. 1 and finish its regular season schedule at home against Campbell on Nov. 5.
Liberty will begin its pursuit of the Big South title, starting Nov. 11. The conference's top eight teams will square off at the home fields of the top four teams that day. The winners will then advance to the semifinals on Nov. 14, with the Big South Championship final on Nov. 16. The semifinals and finals will be played at Bryan Park Soccer Complex in Greensboro, N.C. The conference champion receives an automatic bid to the 2014 NCAA Men's Soccer Tournament.
