(L-R): Katie Zavodny, Megan Robinson and Hanna Nichols were all named to the Big South All-Conference Softball Team, while Robinson also was voted to the All-Academic Team.

Prior to the start of the 2014 Big South Softball Championship, three Liberty Lady Flames earned inclusion on the Big South All-Conference team, as announced Tuesday.

Junior second baseman Megan Robinson was named to the all-conference first team, in addition to receiving mention on the Big South All-Academic Team. Senior outfielder Katie Zavodny was a second-team selection, while junior first baseman Hanna Nichols was included as an honorable mention choice.

Zavodny received all-conference honors for the third year in a row, making her the sixth player in program history with three All-Big South awards. Robinson and Nichols both make their first appearance on the all-conference team, while Robinson was named to the all-academic team for the second year in a row.

Liberty's three all-conference honorees are the most for the team since six Lady Flames were voted to the 2011 Big South All-Conference Softball team. This is the sixth year in a row during which the Lady Flames have had at least one first team all-conference member.

Robinson, who hails from Richlands, Va., holds a 4.0 grade-point average as a youth ministries major. Earlier this year, she was named to the 2014 Capital One Academic All-District III team. She bats .303 for the season, leading Liberty with eight home runs, nine doubles, a .535 slugging percentage and nine multiple-RBI contests. Robinson ranks second on the team with 26 RBIs. She went on a team-best nine-game hitting streak from April 18-26. In conference play, Robinson hit .307 with eight doubles, four homers and 14 RBIs.

A Concord, N.C., product, Zavodny has been a catalyst for the Lady Flames' offense again this season. She paces Liberty in batting average (.352), hits (63), runs (37), stolen bases (31), triples (3), total bases (80) and multiple-hit games (17). She ranks second in the Big South, and tied for 17th nationally, with 31 stolen bases in 2014. Zavodny is Liberty's career stolen base leader, ranking second in conference history with 110 career stolen bases. She currently owns or shares six program records.

Nichols, a native of Richmond, Va., is one of Liberty's top hitters this season. She ranks third on the team in batting average (.304), slugging percentage (.464), doubles (6), on-base percentage (.378), home runs (4) and RBIs (18). Nichols has recorded eight multiple-hit games, including four hits against UMBC on Feb. 15. She hit a game-winning home run in the eighth inning against Presbyterian College on April 26. Nichols reached base safely in each of the last 10 games of the regular season.

Longwood junior catcher Megan Baltzell was named Big South Player of the Year. For the second year in a row, junior Kiana Quolas of Coastal Carolina earned pitcher of the year distinction.

Maddie Antone of Winthrop was voted Big South Freshman of the Year, while Kelley Green received Coach of the Year honors after leading Coastal Carolina to its second Big South regular-season title in a row.

Campbell senior infielder Shaela Churchill earned Big South Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

The 2014 Big South Softball Championship presented by Musco Sports Lighting begins on Thursday at 9 a.m., as No. 8 seed Gardner-Webb and No. 9 seed Liberty meet in an elimination game at Coastal Carolina Softball Stadium in Conway, S.C.
