Jennifer Nicholson won her fourth women's discus title of 2014, Friday at the Highlander Invitational.

Due to a series of storm systems passing through the New River Valley on Friday, only four events were completed on the opening day of the Highlander Invitational at Cupp Stadium. Liberty was victorious in one of those events, as Jennifer Nicholson took home the women's discus title.

Just seven days after claiming her first Big South women's discus championship, Nicholson threw 147-10 to win by six and a half feet. The junior has now recorded four first-place finishes in six discus competitions this season.

In Friday's other women's event, sophomore Yana Babbitt continued her successful comeback from Tommy John surgery to place fourth in the javelin. Her top throw of the day measured 121-6. Freshman teammate Ashley Eubank threw a personal-best 110-11 for fifth place.

Liberty got a 2-3-4 finish from Jacob DeValve, Zach Davis and Blake Kohring in the men's javelin. DeValve's 190-9 heave earned runner-up honors. Davis followed in the third spot at 159-7, while fellow freshman Blake Kohring reached a personal-best 154-3 for fourth place.

Big South men's long jump runner-up Kenny Scott garnered another second-place finish on Friday. His top two leaps of the day both measured 22-9.25, putting him just an inch and a half behind event champion Michael Lockhart.

Saturday's revised schedule at the Highlander Invitational will begin with the men's discus, women's shot put, women's pole vault and women's long jump at 9 a.m. Running events will commence at noon with the men's 4 x 100 relay.
