Josh MacDonald shared the ECAC Division I South Men's Track & Field Athlete of the Week award.

Thanks to an impressive season debut in the steeplechase, Liberty senior Josh MacDonald has been named Co-Corvias ECAC Division I South Men's Track & Field Athlete of the Week.

MacDonald, who shared the honor with Navy thrower Jay Stell, posted a time of 8:54.07 to place 10th in the fastest section of the Stanford Invitational men's steeplechase on Friday. The second-fastest clocking of MacDonald's career has the California native ranked No. 1 in the Big South, No. 2 in the IC4A and No. 13 nationally this season.

MacDonald's performance qualified him for the IC4A meet, where he is the defending steeplechase champion. He also all but guaranteed a berth in the NCAA Division I East Preliminary Round meet for the third year in a row.

MacDonald and the Flames are taking this weekend off from competition in preparation for the 2014 Big South Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The meet will be contested at Winthrop's Irwin Belk Track in Rock Hill, S.C., April 17-19.
