Shawn Clowers has been named the Big South Co-Pitcher of the Week.

Liberty pitcher Shawn Clowers has been selected as the Big South Conference Co-Pitcher of the Week.  Clowers shared the weekly conference honor with Campbell pitcher Ryan Thompson.

Clowers, a junior from Axton, Va. picked up two wins in relief this past week. In two appearances he pitched 10 2/3 scoreless innings, recording wins in both games.

The left-hander recorded his first win of the week in a 1-0, 16 inning win at Old Dominion, last Wednesday. He entered the game in the 10th inning and retired the first 14 batters he faced.  He gave up two hits over six scoreless innings in the longest outing of his career, striking out a career-best eight.

Yesterday, he entered with the bases loaded, one out and Liberty holding a 2-1 lead over High Point in the fifth inning and struck out the next two batters to prevent any scoring. Clowers went on to retire the first 12 batters he faced, including six strikeouts, and did not give up a hit until the ninth.  He allowed just two hits in his outing to lead Liberty to the 4-1 win.

Clowers and the Flames will host the Virginia Tech Hokies, tomorrow evening at the Liberty Baseball Stadium.  First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
