Lady Flames Set for Road Clash at Robert Morris

Coming off a pair of tight losses, the Liberty lacrosse team looks to right the ship with a road win at Robert Morris on Saturday. Game time versus the Colonials is set for 3 p.m. at Joe Walton Stadium.

Series Against Robert Morris
The Colonials hold a 1-0 advantage in the all-time series between Liberty and Robert Morris. The lone meeting between the two squads came last season in Lynchburg on March 16, with the Colonials winning 9-6. Sam Struss paced the Lady Flames with a pair of goals and an assist during the contest.

Last Time Out
It was a tale of two halves between Liberty and the La Salle Explorers on Saturday afternoon at McCarthy Stadium. La Salle used an 8-0 run in the second half to overcome a six-goal deficit and defeat the visiting Lady Flames, 11-10. Nina Dunay, Morgan Becker and Sam Struss scored two goals each to lead Liberty.

Starting Strong
In the Lady Flames' last two contests, they have outscored their opponents by a combined 14-7 tally in the first half. Liberty topped Old Dominion 6-4 at halftime, before leading La Salle 8-3 after 30 minutes this past Saturday.

Climbing up the Record Books
Senior Nina Dunay is closing in on several Liberty career records. The attacker currently ranks second in program history in goals (88), 10 behind Kristin Crowley's all-time record of 98. In career points, Dunay trails Crowley's record of 114 by just two and has four fewer shots than Crowley, at 181 to 177. The Ashburn, Va., native also ranks second on Liberty's all-time assists listing with 24, five behind teammate Sam Struss.

Previewing the Lady Flames
Liberty (1-7) is in the midst of a five-game road trip, which began last week at La Salle and will also take the squad to Virginia Tech, Campbell and Presbyterian College. The Lady Flames are seeking their first road win of the season after falling in each of their previous five contests.

Sam Struss paces Liberty's offensive attack with 23 points on 20 goals and three assists. Nina Dunay (11 goals) and Morgan Becker (10 goals) also have double-digit goal totals this season. Kallie Britton tops the team with eight assists. Britton also leads a Liberty squad which ranks third in the conference in ground balls per game (17.25) with 22 overall. Becker tops the Lady Flames with 27 draw controls, while Dunay has a team-leading 13 caused turnovers.

In between the pipes, Kristen Masullo has a .436 save percentage and a 15.16 goals-against average. The senior has notched 79 total saves, while surrendering 102 goals.

Previewing the Colonials
Robert Morris (5-1) is off to its best start in program history. The Colonials are coming off a 17-8 victory at St. Mary's (Calif.). In home contests, Robert Morris is a perfect 3-0, outscoring its opponents by a 51-31 combined mark during those three matches.

Brittany Byerly (17 goals, 4 assists) leads the Colonials' offense which ranks 14th nationally in scoring offense at 14.5 goals per game. Lauren Roberts has a team-best eight assists. Robert Morris ranks first in the nation in draw controls (17.33), third in caused turnovers (14.0) and seventh in ground balls (21.17). Jessica Karwacki leads the country in draw controls per game at 14.0.  In goal, Kaitlin Pentz holds a .387 save percentage and a 11.28 goals-against average.

Looking Ahead
Liberty will have an 11-day layoff before returning to the field on April 2 at Virginia Tech for its final nonconference match of the season. First draw against the Hokies is slated for 4 p.m.
