Williams Named Big South Co-Player of the Week
Williams (Jr., Lilburn, Ga.) finished the four-game swing batting .462 (6-for-13), with four of her six hits going for extra bases (all four were doubles). The junior posted a .769 slugging percentage on the weekend and a .500 on-base percentage.
Williams opened the weekend, going 1-for-3 with a double against Louisville to help the Lady Flames take the host Cardinals into extra innings. She followed with a perfect 4-for-4 performance against No. 25 California, doubling twice and scoring a run against the Bears.
The catcher's shining moment came with one swing of the bat as she doubled in the sixth inning, driving in two runs to propel Liberty to a 2-0 victory over No. 6/9 Michigan. The victory marked the highest-ranked opponent the softball team has defeated in program history and the third highest in athletics department history.
On the year, Williams ranks fourth on the team as the junior is batting .293 with 12 runs scored and a team-high seven doubles. She ranks third on the team with 17 RBI, moving her closer to second place on the Lady Flames' all-time career RBI ranks as she needs four more to move past Meredith Hollyfield (114/1998-2001).
Williams and the Lady Flames will play their ninth nationally-ranked team in their last 13 games this evening when they square off against No. 1 Tennessee in Knoxville, Tenn. The non-conference twinbill is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.
